Official: Cuba will be open to international Tourism on July 1st
As it was informed by the government in the local news, the country is now ready to take measures up to the next level. This means, that some locations of the Island will be ready to start going back to several activities.
On the other hand, it was established that Havana and Matanzas (Varadero) are not ready to come up this stage. In consequence, these two destinations remain closed and with none international traffic. Although, expecting a gradual recovery, in a short notice.
Setting the rules for reopening
According to the Minister of Tourism, there have been several measures and protocols established for the reopening of hotels in Cuba. They have been taken care of by every company, owners and proprietors. Thus, following the rules established by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Cuban Health Ministry (Minsap) and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Finally, the date has been set: July, 1st
Certainly, every Destination Management Company (DMC) and local agencies are at a start point in the race. Being only holding on a date to be set.
As a result, the Minister of Tourism gave green light to start selling the established destinations on Thursday, June 18th 2020. The objective is to reactivate the operation on July 1st, 2020.
Main destinations for international travelers
The local authorities, also decided to establish safe destinations before the reopening of boarders. The Cays in Cuba are going to be the only venues to open only for international travelers.
Hence, domestic tourism will be relocated to other areas. The government is willing to preserve healthcare of both, Cuban and foreign traveler by separating them in different locations.
In other words, the country is fully prepared for the reopening of boarders and transfers of the clients. Subsequently, transportation to the Cays should be included within the package.
Air and Sea Transportation
Transportation by air is being gradually reestablished in the country.
Accordingly, the international airports at the Cays are going to be ready to restart operating in the set date. So is the case of the airport designated for domestic flights.
In the case of the maritime transportation, the Marinas are also ready to start operating. The have been prepared to receive passengers that will have to pass the established protocols.
Reestablishing activities
Moreover, all local activities are ready to recommence. International travelers can enjoy a wide range of excursions at the Cays whether included or not at the Resorts.
Yet, there is a strict measure to be taken by all visitors to the Cays. Once clients arrive at their destination they are not going to be allowed to move away.
To clarify, visitors are limited to the Cays and in no way, access to other locations is going to be possible.
